I am a Jesus Pusher! The indwelling Jesus, the Living Word, will reveal who He is through the Written Word. This interaction between them saves me from my imagination of who Jesus is and being a legalistic snob. The leaders of Israel give us a perfect example of this. They developed a false picture of the Messiah because they did not embrace the Scriptures. Jesus said, “You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life” (John 5:39-40). If we miss Jesus revealed in the Scriptures, we miss the real Jesus. If we embrace the real Jesus, we know the Jesus who completes the Scriptures.
You cannot read verse eighteen without knowing the permanence of the Scriptures. You cannot dismiss them as necessary only for the Jewish culture. A small religious movement cannot isolate the Scriptures, and it does not matter for the rest of the world. Something is all-inclusive about the Scriptures; they include all time and all nations. “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18). Jesus introduces this statement with, “For assuredly, I say to you.” He highlights the unique importance of His words. “I say this to you absolutely, without qualifications, and with the fullest authority.” His authority is that He fulfills the Scriptures. The relationship of the inner presence of God and the written presence of God operates in His life. He yielded Himself to all that God places in the Scriptures, revealing it in His life. That is how a Kingdom person lives. The Scriptures reveal Jesus, who is within me. I know Him through the Scriptures. I am a Jesus Pusher!
