I am a Jesus Pusher! The “Gospel” means “good news!” Although there is much bad news, this is never the message of Jesus. After expressing the tremendous love of God in giving His only begotten Son, Jesus said, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). Although the statement of Jesus in our passage is negative, it is positive. The negative side of the statement’s purpose is to emphasize the positive. The focus is not on destruction but fulfillment. Jesus did not come to demolish; He came to complete in every way!
However, let us focus on the negative side of Jesus’ statement. The fulfillment of the Scriptures will, of necessity, eliminate the “oral traditions” of the Jews. Jesus plainly said, “The Fulfillment of the Kingdom, Application” (Matthew 5:21:48). He took each of their “oral traditions” and highlighted the biblical truth found in the Scriptures. This destruction of their “oral traditions” became difficult for them. It quickly brought them to the conclusion of eliminating Jesus. In other words, the proposition of Jesus was so strong that they must destroy Him. You must either destroy Jesus’ influence in your life or allow the destruction of your preconceived “oral traditions.” Destruction of your “oral traditions” requires a spirit of openness and seeking, always the heart of the spiritual experience. If you have narrow, opinionated, and rigid thoughts, you will never know the fullness of Jesus’ Spirit in your life. If you are going to have the mind of Christ, you must openly embrace the Scriptures and whatever changes it will make in your life. Are you open to His leadership? Will you allow Him to change your mind? I am a Jesus Pusher!
