I am a Jesus Pusher! Can you visualize the positive drive at the core of Jesus’ life? He participated in the Trinity’s plan for redeeming the world. He stretched into all the Father’s desires. What a privilege to be a part of it? Listen to the words He spoke to His earthly parents. “Why did you seek Me? Did you not know that I must be about My Father’s business?” (Luke 2:49). We can gain insight from Jesus’ use of the Greek word “dei.” The content of a sentence containing this verb is fundamental, unquestioned, often anonymous, and deterministic. It most often designates an unconditional necessity. At twelve, Jesus had this positive focus to participate with His Father.
Two important events in Jesus’ ministry highlight the Fathers’ approval. The launching of His ministry took place at the culmination of thirty years of living. As the fullness of the Spirit descended on Him, and God birthed the New Covenant (the Kingdom of God), the Father descended crying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased” (Matthew 3:17). While God transfigured Jesus in the presence of Moses and Elijah, the Father descended and cried, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!” (Matthew 17:5). Jesus fulfilled the heart’s desire of the Father, which we see in the Scriptures. He came under the Scriptures’ authority, the core of the intimate relationship with the Father, the Living Word, and the Written Word. I must live in harmony of the Word within and the Word without!
