I am a Jesus Pusher! Jesus states His intention twice, “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy” (Matthew 5:17). Jesus coming intends no destruction. That is true in every area of life; however, the focus of our passage is on the Scriptures. Jesus did not come to hinder, eliminate, or destroy one small “tittle” of the Scriptures. He did not come to change directions or to start something not intended, meaning the Scriptures do not contain negative intent but positive salvation.
Jesus gives us the intent of God’s heart even in the Old Testament. He does not say that He is the God of the New Testament, and the God of the Old Testament was wrong. Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God of the Old Testament (Colossians 1:15) without discrepancy between them. The Old Testament was the beginning of the complete revelation in Jesus. He came to fulfill the Scriptures. In Jesus, we have a complete understanding of what took place in the Old Testament. In Jesus, the plan of God is revealed and comes together. In Jesus, the heartbeat of God gives His real intent. Jesus did not come to destroy and contradict the Scriptures but to fulfill them! Jesus reveals that God is “safe.” We can trust Jesus. I must surrender my life to Him as He surrendered His life to His Father. He wants to fulfill the Scriptures in me. I am a Jesus pusher!
