I am a Jesus Pusher! “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). A definition of the word “discharge” in the English dictionary is “to do all required to fulfill a responsibility or perform a duty.” This definition comes within the parameter of “fulfill.” Jesus came to fulfill, accomplish all the law required, and perform the duty of what was spoken by the prophets! He did not come to add to the law or to give additional prophecies. He came to fulfill the Scriptures.
After boldly saying His intentions not to destroy the Law or the Prophets, Jesus declares the eternal state of the Scriptures. He says, “Till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18). This statement extends His intent not to destroy but to fulfill. He places His intent not to destroy the Scriptures in the context of their eternal state. But the key is found in the final statement, “till all is fulfilled.” The New International Version translates this phrase, “until everything is accomplished.” A different Greek word, “pleroo,” translated fulfill, is in the previous verse. “Is fulfilled” is the Greek word “ginomai.” It means “to come into being,” “to cause to be,” or “to become,” giving us a clear focus of what Jesus intended in the word fulfill. He did not come to destroy the Scriptures but to accomplish all contained in them! He wants to do this in your life. I am a Jesus Pusher!
