I am a Jesus Pusher! “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17). Jesus has fulfilled the Scriptures in “realization.” Who has been obedient to the law of God? “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23) is a haunting message. To find partial obedience to the law has no more value than disobedience to the law is distressing. “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10). All generations of humanity stand guilty before the Scriptures. Then Jesus came! He came with the express design of meeting the holy demands of the Scriptures, to offer to God what is justly required. He magnified the law by rendering to it perfect obedience in thought, word, and deed. Concerning the prophets, His mission was to make good predictions about Himself. He performed the work the Scriptures announced He should do. Jesus fulfilled the Scriptures.
Jesus has fulfilled the Scriptures in “restoration.” He gives us the true meaning and revelation of the Scriptures. He obeyed the Scriptures in aspects of law and prophecy. Although we applaud Him for these accomplishments, the greatest of all is that He restored us to Himself as found in the Scriptures. In accomplishing the whole duty of the law and paying the total penalty for failure regarding the law, God fully restores us in Jesus. Jesus imparts His Spirit to us; the Spirit of the One who completes the law is living through us. “Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law” (Romans 3:10). While Jesus continues with the Sermon on the Mount, He says, “Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 7:12). God fulfills Jesus in the Scriptures; God fulfills Jesus in me! I am a Jesus Pusher!
