I am a Jesus Pusher! “For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled” (Matthew 5:18). Two statements beginning with the Greek word “heos,” translated “till,” exist. The first statement is “till (heos) (an) pass (parelthe).” This statement relates to “heaven and earth.” You can use the word “till” (heos) in two ways. First, it can indicate the continuity of an action or the finality of action. Second, we can use it for what is continuing or for what is concluded. Jesus uses “heos” inclusively in our passage regarding “heaven and earth.” The Scriptures will continue until the creation ceases to be and will continue afterward as well! The second statement is “till (heos) (an) all (panta) is fulfilled (ginomai).” Notice this is a different Greek word for “fulfilled” than in the previous verse (Matthew 5:17). “Ginomai” means “to become.” The smallest detail of the Scriptures will not be destroyed or dissolved until it becomes and is accomplished, and then it will continue in its completed form! Jesus is NOT saying that the Scriptures will be dissolved after they are completed, accomplished, or at the end of creation. The Scriptures are eternal!
Jesus presents us with His perspective of the Scriptures. The Bible is not only a book of information and instruction. The Living Word indwells the believer and actively flows into the Scriptures as if He is speaking the words. The Written Word becomes a living organism as an extension of the Living Word. God speaks life into us through this unity. This speaking of God is eternal! Jesus wants to indwell you and speak to you through His Word. Will you listen? I am a Jesus Pusher!
