I am a Jesus Pusher! “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:19). We must carefully consider this verse in light of the premise of the Sermon on the Mount. The Kingdom is not a location or place to dwell but a relationship with Jesus to embrace! The requirement of this relationship is not in achievement or activities but helplessness (poor in spirit), or “least.” About status, helplessness is the only level in the Kingdom of Heaven. Everyone is “least.” The moment we elevate ourselves to a position of accomplishment, we are no longer in the Kingdom. James wrote, “For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all” (James 2:10). If so, no one “shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.” We have all broken “one of the least of these commandments, and by our very actions taught men so.” We should “be called least in the kingdom of heaven.”
However, we are not worthless or insignificant. When we unite with the person of Jesus, we become the Kingdom of God, the new creature of the New Covenant, the new creature of the New Covenant. Who He is merges with who I am (helpless). I become one with the One who fulfilled the Scriptures, bringing me into His greatness. As he fulfilled the law in His authority, He now fills the law in my humanity. He accomplishes this on the platform of my helplessness. No wonder I am a Jesus Pusher!
