I am a Jesus Pusher! “Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:19). Jesus “fulfilled the Scriptures (Matthew 5:17). His fulfillment of the Scriptures is based on the eternal existence of the “final Scriptures” (Matthew 5:18). Now Jesus presents the “frame of the Scriptures” (Matthew 5:19). Jesus spoke to His culture in their language. They developed so many oral traditions that it was impossible to observe them all. One law contradicted another. Debates arose over “which is the great commandment in the law” (Matthew 22:36). The language became “least” and “great.” However, this does not apply to the Scriptures, where every “jot” and “tittle” is significant. Since the Scriptural law is far beyond us, we are all “least in the kingdom of heaven.”
But Jesus is beyond us; He achieved another level! Because Jesus became “least” and fulfilled the law and established a new category, “kingdom of heaven.” He became “great” because He embraced “least.” He opened the door for us to join him in the merger! I will embrace “least” in my life as He did, and He will fill me with His “great.” His filling me does not rest on what I accomplish, for I am helpless; it is who I am in Him! No wonder I am a Jesus pusher!
