I am a Jesus Pusher! “For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 5:20). Self-sourced righteousness was all the scribes and Pharisees could claim. “For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted to the righteousness of God” (Romans 10:3). Our self-centered will is a supreme trap. We continually fight for ourselves, defend ourselves, and promote ourselves. We base our value and worth on the achievement of self. The only answer to this dilemma is in the message of the Sermon on the Mount. We must “mourn” over our helplessness. When we fully embrace our state of destitution, Jesus becomes our source. No wonder Paul exclaimed, “For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes” (Romans 10:4). The Greek word “telos,” translated as “end,” means “completion” or “fulfillment.” Jesus fulfills the Scriptures in us. There is nothing I can achieve that will bring me to this level. The Kingdom’s righteousness is not in “doing” but in “relationship.” I must be His! I am a Jesus Pusher!
