I am a Jesus pusher!!! The exclusive relationship Jesus has with His Father has been extended to us. I have been drawn into this intimacy. It was exclusive in nature. During the great temptation; Jesus turned to Satan and said, “Away with you, Satan!” (Matthew 4:10). This is statement emphasizes the exclusive nature of Jesus’ position. Listen to the strength of His voice. Gaze at the stern look on His face. This is not a Man who will be swayed. He absolutely will not waver from the embrace and oneness with His Father. The Greek verb (translated away) is in the imperative mood. This means it is a command or order. There is no “maybe” involved. It is definite. This verb is also in the present tense which in the Greek language means “now with continual action.” One can easily feel the exclusive intent of this statement. Jesus is distinctly drawing a line. He is excluding any and all suggestions of Satan. Jesus will not consider or even flirt with the idea of any relationship outside of the Father.
This relationship between Jesus and the Father has been opened up to us. Jesus died, was resurrected, and ascended to bring us into this same intimacy with His Spirit. Jesus has captured my life in the same way He was captured by the Father. There is no give or compromise to this intimacy, but why would I desire any? Jesus is not an addition to my life. He is not one of my many activities or interest. How can He be? All other interests fade in the presence of His greatness. He gives perspective to every other involvement; they are seen clearly as temporal. In the intimacy of His person, I hear His voice alone. His direction is my only command. He is the only One to be trusted with my life. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
