I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You have heard it said to those of old . . . But I say to you” (Matthew 5:21-22). Jesus equates His words with God’s words because they are God’s words. He said, “You have heard that it was said to them of old” (Matthew 5:21). The undercurrent of this statement is that God spoke to them in the past. The foundation of this truth is God Himself. The truth about “murder” was not first spoken in the law but was spoken by God before the law (Genesis 9:6). God spoke this from the beginning. Now Jesus fulfilled this, speaking with clarification! The section (Matthew 5:17-20) introduced our passage and declared the speaking of God. Jesus revealed His relationship with the Scriptures, hearing the voice of the Father through the Scriptures. God placed His nature on the table of our world in written form. Jesus, the Second Member of the Trinity, came to our world to submit His life to the formation of this nature. He fulfills everything God spoke in the Scriptures. Jesus is the speaking of God to us! No wonder the Scriptures call Him “the Word.” All the Scriptures say about murder is clarified and made seeable in Jesus.
You cannot understand the Scriptures without intimacy with Jesus. You cannot believe the Scriptures without believing in Jesus. The Living Word expresses the Written Word; they are the same. Now Jesus speaks the Word to us! He is “Accusative Speaking.” The standard of not committing the physical act of murder is considered a compromise to the truth of God’s nature. What was once a great accomplishment is now regarded as subnormal for even the beginner in the Kingdom of Heaven. This standard is a call for the intimacy Jesus has with the Father to become present in us. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
