I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder,’. . . But I say to you” (Matthew 5:21-22). The truth of the Scriptures is not about a physical ACTION but a spiritual ATTITUDE (Matthew 5:22). Perhaps we should begin with a disclaimer. We are not among those who advocate that physical actions do not matter, nor do we propose that physical activities do not exist or are random. The attitude of the heart will, of necessity, declare itself in a person’s actions. Thus, physical activity becomes a symptom of the person’s core. Jesus expressed this in His first statement about murder. Murder is a physical act that expresses the attitude of anger and the need to demean and belittle another person (Matthew 5:22).
Every generation battles to keep this concept in proper perspective. When we do not hold this perspective, it is called antinomianism. Antinomianism is the view that Christians are exempt from the demands of moral law because of the abundance of divine grace, the only source of salvation. Many accused the Apostle Paul of holding this false doctrine. He wrote, “And why not say, ‘Let us do evil that good may come’? – as we are slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say” (Romans 3:8). Paul heartily denied the accusation that proper conduct is irrelevant in the Christian experience. He also wrote, “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it?” (Romans 6:1-2). He continued, “What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not! Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:15-16). Jesus must fill us! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
