I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder,’ . . . But I say to you” (Matthew 5:21, 22). The New Covenant focuses on the inner spiritual attitude demonstrated in physical action. This truth will also change our approach to “conviction.” How easy it is to justify my physical “action.” Yes, I did kill him; but he deserved to die after what he did to me! The scribes, Sadducees, and Pharisees were firmly in this category. They could justify their actions against Jesus and the disciples because of their law. The law told them they were right. But legalism measures only outward physical activity. Are we guilty in our spiritual attitude? The measure of right and wrong is the spiritual attitude, not the physical action.
This truth will change our approach to “communication.” What causes ministry? What do we want to achieve as a church ministering to our community? Is it to get bad people to do good things? Is it to take homeless people and bring them back into society as productive people? Is it to take those in prison and establish lives according to the laws of the land? Does not every person need a nature change in their relationship with Jesus?
Can we begin with who we are? Will you and I examine every physical act of our lives in light of the spiritual attitude that produces it? Oh, I want the mind of Christ! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
