I am a Jesus pusher!!! I adore and worship Him, only Him. The Greek word (proskuneo) translated “worship” is used ninety times in the New Testament. It is only used in relationship to God. To do this to anyone else or anything else is considered idolatry. This Greek word (proskuneo) is a combination of two different words. The two words are “to” (pros) and “kissing” (kuneo). It literally means “to kiss toward someone.” In the ancient oriental world, the mode of salutation between persons of equal ranks was to kiss each other on the lips. When the difference of rank was slight, they kissed each other on the cheek. However, when an individual was much inferior in rank, he fell upon his knees and touched his forehead to the ground or prostrated himself, throwing kisses at the same time toward the superior.
Often in the Greek lexicons to illustrate this word, the example is given of a dog licking his master’s hand. This is a more accurate picture of worship coming from interaction and relationship. The master does not require such action from his dog. This flows from the inner nature of the dog. I am a lover of Jesus. My heart leaps at the very thought of Him. The last thing I desire to do is offend or hurt Him in any way. It is not about rules of duty; it is about love and passion. I want to spend every moment with Him; I want to yield and submit my entire life to Him. I desire no alone time. His approval is my only reward. I am privileged to know His thoughts and desires. His focus becomes mine. He is my one and only pleasure. I do not have to restrain myself from wandering. I am responding to His love. I am in love with Jesus. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
