I am a Jesus pusher!!! “You have heard that it was said to those of old, . . . But I say to you” (Matthew 5:21-22). If Jesus based His authority on the Spirit of God speaking through Him, how do I know it is the nature of God? After all, some accused Him of being filled with the devil (Matthew 9:34; 12:24). He did not come to destroy the Law or the Prophets, the Old Testament Scriptures. He boldly proclaimed this twice for emphasis (Matthew 5:17). This proclamation is contrasted with what He did come to do, to fulfill, meaning everything in the Law’s requirements and all prophesied will happen in the Kingdom person! The Scriptures are the written declaration of God’s nature, revealing His heart. Jesus submitted Himself to this nature revealed in the Scriptures. This nature shaped and determined His living. In seeing Jesus, we see the Scriptures. In seeing the Scriptures, we know the nature of God. Therefore, Jesus is the expression of God’s heart! What He says is a declaration of the mind of God.
What Jesus says to us (“But I say to you”) is authenticated by the action of His life. He did not “fulfill” the Scriptures because He studied them. He did not win the debates of truth because He was a skilled debater. Jesus completed every detail of God’s nature in the law. Every prophecy expressed the desire of God for the world He loves, and He completed this love in Jesus. He is the only man who completed the Scriptures. Now He calls us to join Him in this merger and become a Kingdom person. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
