I am a Jesus pusher!!! “But I say to you that whoever is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment” (Matthew 5:22). Jesus struck a deathblow to anger! Wait! Didn’t Jesus get angry? The Greek word “orgizo,” translated as anger in our passage, was never applied to Jesus. This Greek word designates the sinful disposition of one person toward another, the opposite of the nature and heart of God. It is an expression of the self-centered demonic nature that perverts a person.
Jesus was equating these two issues. He does not change subjects but gives content to what his congregation heard in the past. The Jews had a narrow view of murder, focusing on physical activity, and Jesus had a larger view of murder, seeing murder from a spiritual perspective. Murder is not a result of a spiritual condition, namely anger, but anger is the same as murder. In other words, Jesus did not say anger leads to murder, but Jesus did say anger is murder in the spiritual realm. Murder and anger are the same to Jesus!
Jesus’ primary concern is the helpless person being filled with the nature or mind of God! Anger is not present in the nature of God. The only possibility for an individual to be angry is to live out of his helplessness rather than God’s nature. We must be Kingdom people, filled with the mind of Christ! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
