I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Cross Style language” is an attempt to give new expression to old truth. God described Himself in the Scriptures as “holy” (Leviticus 11:44-45; 1 Peter 1:16). The crucifixion of Jesus Christ was a manifestation of His holy nature in understandable vision. Redemption was not merely an event to celebrate once a year but the setting of a style. You cannot find any event or encounter in Jesus’ life in all the Scriptures that does not express this style. We understand God’s holy nature in the style of the cross. Jesus’ approach in the Sermon on the Mount was to flow this nature into the helpless nature of man. “Blessed are the poor in spirit” (Matthew 5:3). The divine nature of God will bring us comfort when we embrace our nature of helplessness (Matthew 5:4). These two natures are married; God creates a new creature called the “Kingdom of God.” Jesus was the first man to demonstrate this adequately. In helplessness, He submitted Himself. The nature of God in the Spirit shaped the life expression of Jesus. Every activity of His life gave visibility to the influence of the cross style nature of God. The result is so forceful that He is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). The cross style of God is to flow from God into the heart of our nature. He will shape us into the image of His nature.
The only element that can keep this transformation from occurring is the nature of self-centeredness, a pride that will not allow us to embrace our helplessness. Why would anyone hesitate to embrace the state of their inner being? Something has happened to the human being; a foreign nature of self-focus possesses us. Now Jesus proposes a New Covenant of the indwelling nature of God, the cross style nature, redirecting the human life. I am helpless; I want Him! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
