I am a Jesus pusher!!! “Those of old” proposed REGULATION WITHOUT RELATIONSHIP. The determining influence regarding all outward activity was the law. “You shall not murder” was a law that regulated what you could do and not do, and it stipulated a penalty for the infraction of this law. A person who broke the law was in danger of and liable for the judgment. The deterrent for murder is the punishment of the judgment. The New Covenant has a new focus. We cannot have relationship with God and permit walls or barriers in relationship with others. John, the Apostle, strongly presented this message. “If someone says, ‘I love God,’ and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? (1 John 4:20-21). Even if your brother becomes an adversary, you should “agree with your adversary quickly” (Matthew 5:25). You must remove every obstacle from the path of reconciliation. If he remains an adversary, you will not be an adversary though he is an adversary. Therefore, His focus was not on regulating external activities such as murder but on the internal state of anger, demeaning, and belittling. Why did “those of old” ignore this? Jesus’ proposal can only be experienced when a man embraces his helplessness and is then embraced by the presence of God. The Kingdom of God is formed in this combination, a new creature. This merger expresses the human life that looks like the Father. We are a new species, sons of God. Jesus is the prototype, author, beginner, scout, and King of this new beginning. The same Spirit of God indwelling Jesus now indwells us. What a privilege! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
