I am a Jesus pusher!!! The results of sexual lust are devastating and can cause a negative view of sex (Matthew 5:27-30). Sexual perversions are many in number, thus creating a view of all sex as sin. The Bible does not take this position. Wanting to trap Jesus in a divorce controversy, the Pharisees asked, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife for just any reason?” Jesus answered, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate” (Matthew 19:4-6).
In quoting this Scripture, Jesus gives the origin of sexual intimacy, an expression of God’s nature. Because we are created in God’s image, and the sexual drive is a part of us, this drive expresses the passion for intimacy in God’s heart. This intimate union of a husband and wife supersedes the relationship with father and mother. The power of this intimacy results in “one flesh.” We find nothing negative or shameful in these statements. Jesus calls us His bride, expressing His relationship with us as Christians. This imagery contains all sexual involvements and ramifications; therefore, we embrace our sexuality in the beauty of God’s nature. The devil has never created anything. Every sin is a perversion of something extraordinary that God created. At the heart of every sin is a virtue, something right and good. If adultery were the problem, those of old would be justified. The issue is God’s heart filling us and being expressed in our sexuality. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
