I am a Jesus pusher!!! Playboy published its first magazine in 1953, and today that publication is a 4.9 billion dollar business. The domain name (sex.com) is valued at 65 million dollars. Twenty-eight thousand two hundred fifty-eight people view pornography every second. Every thirty-nine minutes, a new pornographic movie is produced. Christians are not exempt from these statistics. More than fifty-three percent of men attending Promise Keepers said they viewed pornography weekly. Forty-five percent of Christians admit pornography is a significant problem in their home. “Looking” has taken over our lives!
The Scriptures place a significant focus on the “eye.” In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus calls the eye “the lamp of the body” (Matthew 6:22-23). “Looking” becomes the entryway into our lives. When the perspective of looking has Jesus’ nature, the being is filled with light, but darkness prevails when the perspective of looking is self-centered. The basis of the first temptation was the eye. The devil suggested to Eve that God did not tell the whole truth. “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate” (Genesis 3:6). After Adam and Eve had eaten the fruit, “then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings” (Genesis 3:7). The opening of our eyes is a reality of the New Covenant. In the New Covenant, man’s nature is transformed when Jesus removes blindness (false seeing) and gives sight (proper perspective). I need Jesus to see properly. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
