I am a Jesus pusher!!! Previously we have studied the role of sexuality in the fall of the human race. The Scriptures say that the moment Adam and Eve sinned, “Then the eyes of both of them were opened” (Genesis 3:7). This does not mean they were blind before their sin. They were “looking” from the moment of their creation. Their “looking” was not their sin! But when they sinned, “Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings” (Genesis 3:7). The first recorded effect of their sin was their new view of their sexuality. God came walking in the garden in the cool of the day. Adam and Eve hid themselves (Genesis 3:8). When God found them, Adam confessed, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself” (Genesis 3:10). God asked, “Who told you that you were naked?” (Genesis 3:11). Their view of sexuality was different. “Looking” was not the problem, but the motive for the “looking” had become one. Their nature was not the same!
Salvation for humanity would not just embrace forgiveness but must embrace a change in nature. Forgiveness would not be the solution to nature change. It merely opens the door for God to address the heart issue! Christ must crucify my nature of self-centeredness that produces the deeds of sin. I must identify with Jesus in surrender, allowing Him to bring my selfishness to death. It cannot be corrected or forgiven; His presence must eliminate this selfish nature. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
