I am a Jesus pusher!!! Sexuality is the focus of our day, capturing our children at much younger years than before. Ten percent of all thirteen-year-olds have had sex. Half of all teenagers have participated in sex by the time they enter the tenth grade. One out of every five teenage girls will become pregnant. Two-thirds of all young adults finishing high school are already sexually active. We are focused on our sexuality in advertisements, fashions, literature, movies, and even comedy. We are obsessed with our sexuality. Jesus declared this to be the problem in our passage.
Jesus is strong in His emphasis on priority. The problem is not in the “looking”; the problem is in the focus of the “looking” and is at the root of Christian experience. Our nature has radically changed from its intended focus. We focus on controlling our desires, relationships, and our physical acts have become depraved. Why do we think dirty jokes are humorous? What attracts us to pornography? We are never satisfied with a little, but our desires increase in degree and intensity. Why would “those of old” be satisfied with pushing their sexuality aside and look to a rule to control their physical acts? Our focus is wrong! Jesus must become our focus! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
