I am a Jesus pusher!!! David, the psalmist, was contemplating the value of man. In view of the vastness of the stars, man is insignificant. Why would God be mindful or take care of man (Hebrews 2:6)? The position of man is one who is lower than the angels. But even in this lower position God has crowned man with glory and honor (Hebrews 2:7). Man is like the victor in the public games; he is crowned as the winner. The glory and honor given to man is “You have put all things in subjection under his feet,” (Hebrews 2:8). In creation man was given dominion over all the Garden of Eden (Genesis 1:26). Man was responsible for tending the garden (Genesis 2:15). Man was responsible for naming the animals (Genesis 2:19). Note carefully that man is in this position because he is relationship with God. He is Spirit-sourced.
The Hebrew author must have wept as he stated but we do not yet see all things put under him (Hebrews 2:8). Man in the Fall gave this authority and domain over to Satan, a fallen angel. But the Hebrew author wiped his eyes of those tears as he relayed the news, “But we see Jesus!” (Hebrews 2:9). He became one of us for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone (Hebrews 2:9). God became one of us. Jesus was a man who still had the authority originally given to man in the Garden. He came to restore us to this same authority. God accomplished this not through angels but through Jesus, a Man. Man got us into this mess and man would have to get us out. But he would have to be a man who was not in the mess. Jesus is the Man! He is your way out. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
