I am a Jesus pusher!!! Peter was preaching to the Jews of the Dispersion (Acts 2:14-39). He was explaining Pentecost which the disciples had just experienced. The outside God has come inside man. Jesus of Nazareth, a Man is the explanation. Everything God is doing in Pentecost, He is doing in and through Jesus. The concluding statement of Peter’s explanation is, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ,” (Acts 2:36). In the Greek text the first word in this sentence is “assuredly.” The Greek word “asphalos” means safe, secure, or unshakable. What is placed at the beginning of the sentence is often the most important emphasis of the sentence. Here is a statement which is absolutely true. It is totally safe to rest your life upon it. Let this one sure truth shape your entire theology. There is no give or take, no compromise or adjustment in this reality. This is the fundamental which establishes the foundation of everything God desires for your life. If you grasp this all is well; if you miss this you are damned. This is the big, huge issue!
Notice it is about Jesus! He is the certainty of God’s action in your behalf. There may be questions about creation, baptism, organizational structure and rules of the church. There is no question about Jesus. He is God’s final statement to you and me. I am secure, safe in Him. There is no need for further argument. He is mine and I am His. I am a Jesus pusher!!!
