I am a Jesus pusher!!! Peter is addressing the Jews of the Dispersion concerning the event of Pentecost. His explanation is clear and concise. The outside God coming to live inside must be seen in the context of Jesus. Pentecost is explained and understood in and through Jesus. The creative flow which caused Jesus is now available to us. It comes from the very center of God’s heart. Peter expresses this in the final statement of his sermon, “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ,” (Acts 2:36). The strong emphasis of the statement is on what the creative heart of God is accomplishing in Christ (poieo). However, the undercurrent of the statement is the response of Jesus to God’s heart. The creative “causing” came from the very center of God’s heart; but there was also the consenting of Jesus’ heart!
Listen to the words of Jesus: “Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do (poieo) nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do (poieo); for whatever He does (poieo), the Son also does (poieo) in like manner. For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all thing that He Himself does (poieo); and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel,” (John 5:19, 20). All the Father is doing (poieo) is from His creative, artistic heart; the entire “doing (poieo)” of the Son is a result of the same heart. The Son is sourced by the throbbing heart of His Father. This is Peter’s explanation of Pentecost. This same heart is available to us. I want the heart of Christ! I am a Jesus pusher!!!
